Daily Wire Report Alleges Over $250 Million Of Medicaid Fraud In Ohio
Summary from the AllSides News Team
Allegations of widespread Medicaid fraud are being investigated in Columbus, Ohio, which is home to the second-largest Somali population in the US.
The Allegations: The Daily Wire (Right bias) reported on May 5 that seven buildings along East Dublin Granville Road in Columbus, housing 288 Medicaid funded home health care companies, have taken in over $250 million of taxpayer dollars between 2018 and 2024. The outlet found that "some office doors have signs suggesting the owner is out to lunch, but the piles of mail outside tell a different story," adding that "the seven massive complexes appear to be largely abandoned."
"Failing To Pay Taxes": Moonlight Home Health Care, which took in $9 million, had an office that "was not just closed when the Daily Wire visited, but there was nothing inside. The report added that "Like a shocking number of the home health care firms, it appears to have failed to pay its own taxes — taking millions in taxpayer money but refusing to return to Uncle Sam even his share of corporate profits." The owner of Moonlight, Sasi Kaza, was also reportedly running another company simultaneously called Comprehensive Behavioral Health Associates in Youngstown, Ohio, which also has a $600,000 federal tax lien against it, "and a website that contains only stock art and doesn't contain the name of a single doctor or employee or their qualifications."
"True American Dream": Mohamud A. Jama, a Democratic politician and founder of a newspaper called the Somali Post, was the owner of Omega Home Health Care Services, which brought in $11 million in taxpayer money between December 2017 and October 2024. The Daily Wire report said that when running for state Senate in 2024, Jama didn't mention "the multimillion-dollar home health business" in his biography. In August 2025 after a routine audit, "impossible claims" showed that Omega billed for taking care of clients at their house while at the same time hospitals billed Medicaid for in-patient care.
"Fraud Isn't Partisan: The Columbus Dispatch (Center), calling the Daily Wire a "right-wing online media outlet," highlighted in coverage how Medicaid works and included comments from Ohio Medicaid Director Scott Patrika saying fraud is "something we take very serious." Robby Soave (Lean Right), writing opinion for The Hill (Center), asserted that since Ohio is a Republican-led state and has a Republican governor, "we should make no mistake: welfare fraud isn't partisan." At the time of writing, there was no coverage of the Daily Wire report from any left leaning outlets.

Despite Nick Shirley's spotlight on Minnesota and the rampant waste fraud and abuse occurring there, we always knew that we would find more of the same in every blue state and red state across the country. And now, thanks to the conservative news site The Daily Wire, we're taking a serious look at the Republican state of Ohio, where investigative journalist Luke Rosiak has uncovered gobsmacking amounts of welfare fraud.

The front doors are open, but inside, the seven massive complexes appear to be largely abandoned. Smoke detectors chirp for new batteries. No one is there to change them. Some office doors have signs suggesting the owner is out to lunch, but the piles of mail outside tell a different story. Stray cats have taken up residence in the parking lots.
