Judge Judy is stepping away from the bench next month, and her departure deserves more than the usual tributes to a television institution that held America's attention for three decades. For better or worse, Judy was arguably our last great public secular moralist, able to tell a mass audience how to behave with steely-eyed resolve without invoking God, demanding political allegiance, or promising enlightenment.
