House Will Vote On Alejandro Mayorkas’ Impeachment After Committee Approval

Republicans on the House Committee on Homeland Security voted Tuesday to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, sending the issue to a vote by the full House of Representatives, as Republicans lay blame on the Biden-appointed director for the ongoing migrant crisis at the southern border.

The committee voted 18-15, with Democrats calling the impeachment effort a “gross, gross injustice.”

Republican Committee Chair Mark Green (R-Tenn.) said the secretary “willfully and systematically refused to comply with the laws passed by congress and the American people,” and said the Republican-led investigation was “painstakingly thorough.”

After approving the articles of impeachment, the House of Representatives will vote on the Secretary’s impeachment on a later date, which has not been determined.

President Biden and the Department of Homeland Security have previously called the impeachment “baseless,” insisting in a memo that Republicans “don’t want to fix the problem; they want to campaign on it.”
