Trump Offers Ukraine 15-Year Security Guarantee During Talks With Zelensky

President Donald Trump offered Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a 15-year security guarantee during a peace talk on Sunday. 

The Details: Trump said he expected European support for the US in the potential deal's outcome. While both Trump and Zelensky said the deal was nearly completed, Zelensky later suggested the need for a larger measure of 30 to 50 years, stressing, "Without security guarantees, this war cannot be considered truly over." Zelensky reportedly offered to end Ukraine's NATO ambitions in exchange for Western security guarantees earlier in December. Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke on the phone ahead of the meeting and reportedly agreed that a temporary ceasefire would prolong the conflict. Trump asserted, "Russia wants to see Ukraine succeed." According to Zelensky, a vote is expected to reach US Congress, though a date has not been set.
