Steven Crowder Feuds with The Daily Wire over $50 Million Deal

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Conservative commentator Steven Crowder and The Daily Wire (Right bias) are in a public feud over a $50 million dollar media deal.

The Details: Crowder, a popular pundit with 5.9 million YouTube subscribers, was reportedly offered a four-year, $50 million dollar deal by The Daily Wire to join the network as a content creator. The contract stipulated that Crowder’s pay could be cut if social media platforms demonetized his content. Crowder went public with some contract details and clips of a phone call with DW founder Jeremy Boreing, and said that "Big Tech is in bed with Big Con."

For Context: Crowder, who left The Blaze (Right bias) in December, had longtime friendships with members of DW, most notably Boreing. Boreing was unaware that the call had been recorded, and issued an explanation of the agreement. Crowder has previously been suspended multiple times by Twitter and YouTube over content violations.

Key Quotes: Ben Shapiro, a DW founder, said there was "something rather nasty about attacking people who have been friends for over a decade… on the basis of your own misinterpretation of a document that offers you $50 million." Candace Owens, another content creator for DW, said Crowder’s stunt was a “total b**** move."

How The Media Covered It: Left-rated outlets have generally covered the story more than center or right-rated outlets. Some outlets on both left and right, including the National Review, were critical of Crowder's character.

Opinion

Greed-induced betrayal was on the mind because of Steven Crowder’s insinuations and attacks against Ben Shapiro’s and Jeremy Boreing’s Daily Wire.

“Who are these people?” is a fair rejoinder. Shapiro, Boreing, and Crowder are the first names most young people interact with when first getting into conservatism. For better or worse, Louder with Crowder and the Daily Wire are giants in our space and a spat between the two organizations — where accusations of selling out is a vile smear if unsubstantiated or deceitful, as Crowder’s barbs are, is an embarrassment and risks the cause of...

News

Far-right YouTuber Steven Crowder has accused conservative media outlets like The Daily Wire of conspiring with tech companies to censor conservative views after the company offered Crowder a $50 million deal that would cut his compensation if his social media channels were demonetized or boycotted, which Crowder called a “slave contract.”

In a video posted online this week, Crowder said that some outlets were “in bed with” tech companies and were colluding to ultimately demonetize and censor right-wing views on social media platforms, though he didn’t name any outlets specifically.

Analysis

Far-right YouTuber Steven Crowder has kicked off a public feud with The Daily Wire after the right-wing news outlet approached him with a measly four-year contract offer worth a pitiful $50 million, and some fiduciary obligations on his part. What began as a private contract proposal has devolved into a public spat involving long form video responses, angry tweets, and secretly recorded phone conversations.

On Tuesday, Crowder launched the “Stop Big Con” initiative and accused “conservative media giants” of being “no better than Big Tech” and puttingprofit over the honest defense...
