Bias Alert: Trump Responds to Epstein Controversy

Summary from the AllSides News Team

President Donald Trump responded to the question “Why do you think your supporters in particular have been so interested in the Epstein story and so upset about how it’s been handled?” on Tuesday night. While some media included full quotes elsewhere in their articles, outlets on the left and right exhibited strong biases by omission in their headlines.

Trump’s Response: “Why they would be so interested… he’s dead for a long time. He was never a big factor in terms of life. I don’t understand what the interest or what the fascination is. I really don’t. And, the credible information’s been given. Don’t forget, for years we went through the Mueller witchhunt and all of the different things… the Steele dossier, which was all fake. All that information was fake. But I don’t understand why the Jeffrey Epstein case would be of interest to anybody. It’s pretty boring stuff. It’s sorted, but it’s boring. And I don’t understand why it keeps going. I think really only pretty bad people, including fake news, want to keep something like that going; but credible information… let ‘em give it.” He also issued commentary on Truth Social on Saturday and Tuesday

From the Left: Headlines on the left focused largely on the “bad people” comment. Daily Beast’s (Left bias) headline read, “Trump Tries to Put Down MAGA Revolt by Calling Rebels ‘Bad People.’” The New Republic’s (Left) read similarly, “Trump Declares Those Still Interested in Epstein Are “Bad People.’”

From the Right: Headlines on the right more often focused on Trump’s decry of public interest. Just the News’ (Lean Right) headline read, “Trump fumes over 'PAST supporters' buying Epstein ‘SCAM.’” Fox News’ (Right) read, “Trump supports Bondi releasing ‘credible’ Epstein files amid MAGA backlash.”

President Trump told reporters Tuesday that he’s baffled by the interest in investigative files related to Jeffrey Epstein — describing the convicted sex predator’s case as “sordid” but “boring.”

“He’s [been] dead for a long time, he was never a big factor in terms of life,” Trump said of Epstein, who was found dead in his Manhattan jail cell in 2019.

“I don’t understand what the interest or what the fascination is — I really don’t,” the president continued, as he spoke with reporters outside Air Force One.

“The credible information has...
