Summary from the AllSides News Team
The pro-life and pro-choice movements are lobbying for government funding in their respective spheres, amidst the introduction of the Let Pregnancy Centers Serve Act of 2025, which aims to prohibit the discrimination of organizations against abortion.
Support for Abortion Centers: “Rather than prioritizing policies that improve access to essential health care, Republicans are directing taxpayer dollars to unregulated, anti-abortion ‘pregnancy centers’ that mislead and manipulate patients,” wrote Lauren Blauvelt for The Columbus Dispatch (Center bias). Blauvelt criticized Gov. Mike DeWine (R-OH) for proposing a 10% increase in parenting and pregnancy resources rather than using funding for abortion centers that provide “essential, evidence-based health care.” She argued that pregnancy resource centers (PRCs) – which are often pro-life – lack accreditation by not having the same standards as other health care facilities, and, “Defunding abortion centers like Planned Parenthood contradicts the will of voters who overwhelmingly support reproductive rights.”
Support for Pregnancy Resource Centers: “Pregnancy centers are called to help women, families, and their babies. They weren’t called to the rough and tumble politics funded and fueled by Big Abortion’s demands for abortion anywhere, anytime, and paid for by the American taxpayer,” wrote Jor-El Godsey for Washington Examiner (Lean Right). The piece referred to a report showing a decrease in non-abortion services at Planned Parenthood, along with an increase in taxpayer funding. Godsey argued that PRCs are no different from any other charitable organization dedicated to a single cause. He criticized the abortion industry for targeting and attempting to “demonize” PRCs that provide the choice for women and families to carry out their pregnancies.
Similar Claims: Each writer argued that their movement is protecting life, and each accused the other of coercion. While Blauvelt called PRCs “entities known for spreading misinformation about abortion to coerce, deceive and manipulate pregnant people into carrying pregnancies to term,” Godsey wrote, “In a commonsense world, helping women have an alternative to abortion should be celebrated and supported by everyone. No woman should be coerced into an abortion decision she doesn’t really want.” AllSides hasn't found any commentary from the left as of this writing.

An unintended pregnancy is an unexpected battleground across the United States. Every woman should be loved and supported in her pregnancy. Compassionate help dedicated to encouraging women with unplanned pregnancies to say yes to their babies is not something that should be controversial.
Nor should such altruistic help be the target of the bullies of Big Abortion and its axis of political powerhouses and angry activists. Yet here we are with pro-abortion state attorneys...

Ohio voters made history by enshrining abortion rights in the state constitution in November of 2023.
The landmark victory reflected our shared belief in the right to make personal medical decisions without government interference.
Now, Republican Gov. Mike DeWine and his administration are trying to undermine that victory by funneling millions from the state budget into anti-abortion centers — crisis pregnancy centers — entities known for spreading misinformation about abortion to coerce, deceive and manipulate pregnant people into carrying pregnancies to term.
Despite growing public support across the country for protecting abortion access, DeWine...
