Piker is a popular Twitch streamer and political commentator known for his progressive views and frequent critiques of US foreign policy and Israel. He has expressed skepticism about the mass sexual violence committed by Hamas on October 7th and frequently refers to the conflict in Gaza as a “genocide,” recently stating that “the possibility of sexual violence on October 7 doesn’t justify the genocide of Palestinians.” Piker has also said that “America deserved 9/11,” and stated he has “no issue” with Hezbollah.

Third-Party Accusations of Bias
Piker received criticism in August 2021 after purchasing a $2.7 million dollar house in West Hollywood, California. Many across the political spectrum argued that owning such an expensive house undercut Piker's asserted socialist values, and that he should "redistribute" his excess wealth. Others, like YouTuber Ethan Klein, defended Piker by contrasting his wealth to that of billionaire Jeff Bezos. Piker himself defended the purchase, saying, "i live in la. the housing market here is f----d. why is the argument that i should keep renting or that i should go gentrify somewhere else? will this solve the problems?"
Piker received similar criticism in Feb. 2022 for purchasing a $200,000 Porche.
Several outlets have described Piker as strongly left-leaning. A 2021 New York Magazine (Left bias) article called him "the AOC of Twitch." A 2020 feature in the New York Times (Lean Left bias) called him "a progressive political commentator" trying to "rewrite the narrative he sees in the news about the left."
About Hasan Piker
Hasan Piker is a Turkish-American leftist political commentator and Twitch streamer. Piker's Twitch channel, Hasanabi, had over 2 million followers as of April 2022, and his near-daily streams often reach over 30,000 live viewers. Piker's Twitch channel temporarily became the most popular on the platform during the 2020 election.
In 2013, Piker joined The Young Turks, a progressive digital publisher founded by Piker's uncle, Cenk Uygur. In 2016, Piker created and hosted his own show, The Breakdown, at The Young Turks. He also wrote analysis and opinion articles for HuffPost (Left bias) from 2016 to 2018. Piker started streaming on Twitch in 2018 and left The Young Turks in 2020.
In a 2021 interview with The Verge (Lean Left bias), Piker said he criticizes the Democratic Party "quite frequently" and the Republican Party "even more frequently than that." While Piker has supported gun control measures following mass shootings, he has also advocated for gun ownership and filmed several videos at gun ranges.
