CNN en Español is a news media source with an AllSides Media Bias Rating™ of Lean Left.
CNN en Espanol rated Lean Left in an April 2025 Independent Review.
An AllSides April 2025 Independent Review returned a Lean Left bias rating for CNN en Español.
An AllSides reviewer noted that CNN en Español crossposts several articles from CNN Digital (Lean Left), translating them into Spanish.
On Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariffs, CNN en Español framed the story largely around the negative ramifications on the economy, and referenced negative reactions to the tariffs from Wall Street and the Capitol – what is known as bias by viewpoint placement. Additionally, the outlet did not detail the other side on tariffs on potential benefits or reasoning for the tariffs, showcasing what is known as bias by omission. On El Salvador sending Venezuelan immigrants back to Venezuela, the outlet framed the story through the lens of US culpability for the rising tensions between El Salvador and Venezuela; along with further culpability for the “precarias condiciones de reclusion” that immigrants encounter in El Salvador.
CNN en Español on FEMA’s funds being potentially redistributed by the Trump administration, and opened the article with the fact that only Congress can control the purse of the government, not the executive branch. However, the outlet then balanced their critique of Trump by noting how “No es raro que los departamentos, incluido el DHS, reprogramen fondos” (It isn’t rare for departments, such as the DHS, to redistribute funds), providing historical context into Trump’s actions, avoiding bias by omission.
CNN en Español on Trump’s tariffs and immigration showcases perspectives more commonly associated with the left. However, the outlet also regularly balances these perspectives with context that may be more commonly associated with outlets from the Center. When taking all these perspectives into account, CNN en Español best exemplifies a Lean Left bias.

Additional Information
Controversy in Nicaragua and Venezuela
In 2022, the Nicaraguan government removed CNN en Español from the air. The news outlets speculated the reasoning behind this decision was due to the outlet “report[ing] on other examples of repression by the Ortega government” quoting Reuters (Center bias) who claimed that “CNN en Español was the only remaining outlet critical of President Daniel Ortega available to Nicaraguans.”
In 2017, the Venezuelan government “ordered cable providers to take CNN en Español off the air,” which CNN en Español believes is due to their investigation into "fraudulent issuing of Venezuelan passports and visas.” The Venezuelan government justified their choice, claiming that CNN en Español "instigates religious, racial, and political hatred” on top of knowingly “defam[ing] and distort[ing] the truth.”
