What a Center Bias Rating Means

The source either does not show much media bias, displays a balance of articles with left and right biases, or equally balances left and right perspectives in its reporting.

Center doesn't mean better! A Center media bias rating does not necessarily mean a source is totally unbiased, neutral, perfectly reasonable, or credible, just as Left and Right don't necessarily mean extreme, wrong, unreasonable, or not credible. AllSides encourages people to read outlets across the political spectrum.

Bias Reviews

We use multiple methods to analyze sources. Learn how we rate media bias.

February 2023 Independent Review

A February 2023 Independent Review by a member of the AllSides team found Votebeat to have a Center leaning. However, the reviewer noted several articles which strongly criticized efforts to overturn 2020 and 2022 election results. Since these efforts were undertaken by Republican officials and others aligned with the political right, these articles may give some readers the impression of an anti-right bias. Because these articles were limited to the issue of election denial, however, they were not considered sufficient to shift the overall rating. Other articles made clear efforts to appeal to people aligned with both the right and left.
