Prospect Rated Left in March 2026 Independent Review

In March 2026, an AllSides team member conducted an Independent Review of Prospect and assigned an initial bias rating of Left.

At the time of review, Prospect published mostly opinion and analysis content. The reviewer found that perspectives published in the magazine often appeared critical of the United Kingdom's incumbent Labour government, from the left.

In an opinion published by an anonymous writer who Prospect claims is an elected official, titled Cancel local elections, embolden the populists, the writer criticized Prime Minister Keir Starmer's Labour government for previously canceling elections, and then uncanceling them, because it "gifted" the Reform party with an "opportunity." The writer wrote: "The decision to cancel local elections, which were uncancelled on Monday, was a highly partisan and undemocratic move of which the government should be ashamed. And with it, Labour has gifted its rival Reform UK a political opportunity."

In an opinion titled The Greens’ triumph is Labour’s catastrophe, Tom Clark highlighted positive election results for the Greens in Manchester-area constituency that he described as a Labour stronghold. He opened by writing, "The one certainty was supposed to be that it would be close, but it wasn’t. The Greens stormed the historic Labour citadel of Gorton and Denton with ease... The Labour to Green 'swing' of over 25 points is on its own just about enough to put the result among the great byelections of history. But for all sorts of reasons it is more disruptive than this arithmetic suggests. The old pendulum didn’t just swing: it snapped. The catastrophe for Keir Starmer and his government was not matched by a resurgent opposition, but the worst Tory result ever: less than 2 per cent."

In an opinion titled The true significance of the Supreme Court’s tariff ruling, Andrew Adonis said, "It is no great revelation that Trump has zero respect for legal judgements which go against him and will do everything he can to subvert them." Adonis later added, "The good news is that the Supreme Court has at last shown it is not simply a rubber stamp. There are other hugely controversial cases pending, such as Trump’s denial of birthright citizenship, and he could now lose on some of those, too. The rule of law is severely strained, but the worst fears of a dictatorship have yet to be realised."
