GMO (Genetically Modified Organism)

Whereas some see the development of GMOs as a dangerous and troubling trend, others see GMOs as modern miracles that expand our ability to care for a larger number of human beings.

The latter group often regards attacks on GMOs as anti-scientific nonsense, insisting that there is no scientific evidence that directly modifying a plant or an animal genetically creates any danger for the people consuming it.

The former group sees plenty for evidence for concern - and feels perplexed that all the evidence is not being considered. From this vantage point, the giant chemical and food companies are producing skewed research and the government isn’t doing enough to regulate or ban GMOs. Looking to the future, those with concerns would add that humans shouldn’t “mess with Mother Nature” - suggesting that we don’t know the long-term effects of what manipulating the natural food supply might yet mean.
