Federal Judge Blocks Biden Administration From Lifting Title 42

A federal judge on Friday blocked the Biden administration from lifting Title 42, the controversial pandemic-era border policy that authorizes Border Patrol officials to turn back migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border from asking for asylum. 

The Biden administration announced plans to end the law in late March, citing guidance from the CDC that found the border policy is "no longer warranted in light of the current public-health circumstances." Judge Robert Summerhays has ruled that the public health association didn't seek comment from the public or consider the burden of healthcare costs that would assumably be placed on border states if more migrants tested positive for COVD-19. Border Patrol agents encountered 234,000 migrants in April that were attempting to cross the border, according to recent data from DHS.

Left-rated outlets were more likely to emphasize that "the controversial Trump-era border policy" blocked immigrants' chance from "making their cases" and cited human rights advocates who have found migrants often face abuse when they return to their home countries. Conversely, some right-rated outlets emphasized that the Biden administration would've "violated federal rules" by scrapping the border policy, which would "lead to a flood of immigration that the administration is not equipped to handle."
