Previewing Tuesday's Primaries and Special Elections

Summary from the AllSides News Team

On Tuesday, voters will nominate candidates in primaries across four states - races which sources across the spectrum say will once again put the power of former President Donald Trump's endorsement to the test.

Trump is seeking to defeat Republican candidates who he believes have crossed him, despite high-profile setbacks like Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp’s resounding primary win. In South Carolina, Trump is backing challengers to two incumbent House members: Rep. Tom Rice, who voted to impeach Trump after the Capitol riot, and Rep. Nancy Mace, who has oscillated between Trump critic and fan. Voters also go to the polls in Maine, Nevada and North Dakota, and a special House primary is being held in Texas’ 34th Congressional District to fill the vacancy left by Filemon Vela Jr. (D), who resigned March 31.

News sources across the spectrum have highlighted how both Republicans and Democrats are facing decisions this year about how far right or left a nominee can be and still win in November.
