January 6 Select Committee Hearings Begin

Summary from the AllSides News Team

On Tuesday, the House Select Committee will hold its first congressional hearing on the January 6 Capitol riot.  Four police witnesses, two of whom are U.S. Capitol Police officers, will testify about what happened that day.

The committee, after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's rejection of two Republican recommendations, will consist of only two Republicans — Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-Wy.) and Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.). Many Republicans are denouncing the investigation as politically motivated and partisan; Democrats aim to showcase the extreme right-wing and the violence that occurred.
