Pence Subpoenaed by Special Counsel Overseeing Trump Probes

Former Vice President Mike Pence was the target of a subpoena from special counsel Jack Smith, multiple outlets reported. 

The Details: It was not immediately known when the subpoena was issued or what information it sought. ABC News (Lean Left bias) first reported the story, citing multiple unnamed sources; several outlets separately confirmed the story. 

For Context: Smith was appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland in November to oversee the Justice Department’s investigations into former President Donald Trump — regarding both the classified documents found at Mar-a-Lago and the January 6 Capitol riot. It was reported earlier on Thursday that Smith had also subpoenaed Trump’s former national security adviser, Robert O’Brien. 

How the Media Covered It: Coverage was widespread among major left-rated outlets, some of which highlighted Smith’s role in the January 6 investigation but not his role in the documents probe.
