An independent review conducted by an AllSides team member found that the SPLC deserves a Left rating. The review found that SPLC focuses almost exclusively on issues associated with the political left, and will sometimes publish stories supporting Democratic Party policies or agenda items. SPLC rarely, if ever, does this for Republican causes.
The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is a nonprofit organization working to monitor U.S.-based hate groups and advance rights for immigrants, members of the LGBTQ community, and other groups who often face discrimination. SPLC uses many different means to achieve its goals, including litigation, education, and investigation. They are primarily focused on the Southern United States.
