The McClatchy Company is a major news publishing company that operates 29 daily newspapers nationwide. It began in 1857 as a small newspaper in Sacramento founded by Native American writer Rollin Ridge. Since 1857, its journalists have won nine Pulitzer Prizes, most recently in 2017 for coverage of the Panama Papers.
McClatchyDC began in 2006 after the company acquired Knight Ridder, at the time the country's second-largest newspaper publisher.
