Details
The Hoya is Georgetown University's biweekly student newspaper. In the beginning years of the newspaper, The Hoya did not show any ideological leanings or biases. When World War II broke out, the editorials supported a neutral stance; after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the paper completely supported the allied war efforts. After the war ended, the paper focused mainly on internal campus issues. After Watergate, some investigative journalism pieces began to be published by The Hoya. In the 1980s, the paper focused much less on politics of the campus, and instead foused on unifying headlines. Now, there are four different editorial sections of the paper, including news, opinion, sports and The Guide, a weekly arts and lifestyle magazine. The AllSides Bias Rating™ for The Hoya is not rated because there is not enough research or evidence to rate the source thus far.
More On The Hoya
The Hoya was founded in 1920. The newspaper got its name from a popular Georgetown chant "hoya saxa." In 1998, The Hoya launched its website and now has two official blogs called The Fourth Edition and Hoya Paranoia. The Hoya began its official bid to be financially independent from the University in 2004, and discussions for independence are still ongoing.
