Newsweek and AllSides’ National Roundtable on Political Violence
The technologies and services behind the event
AllSides Technologies is the central service and technology provider for the National Roundtable on Political Violence dialogue event. AllSides Technologies provides the tech, partners, people, customer service and leadership that brings it all together, including the original concept, registration, hosting, tech support, marketing materials, polling, and analysis of the conversations.
Newsweek has been a thought and innovation partner with AllSides for a number of years, collaborating on ways to improve the integrity of news, provide better service, and interact with its audience. Few major news organizations have the courage or integrity of purpose to take risks and so strongly support an event like this that bridges differences in a time when many news organizations remain committed to their political agendas or business models that thrive from division and anger.
A critical component of this event is the conversation guide itself. Since 2010, Living Room Conversations has developed over one hundred conversation guides that enable participants to appreciate their shared humanity and listen deeply to each other. The experience has been thoroughly tested by the Fetzer Institute and others and proven to be transformative, reducing extremes and intolerance. These conversations help people across the spectrum find common ground and common humanity, while acknowledging and holding onto their differences.
The conversations occur within the open sourced Frankly platform, which began as a project of Junto, later called Kazm, before being handed to the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University where it became open sourced. AllSides has been and continues to be a proud collaborator and contributor to the Frankly platform since 2021 for the first America Talks event with USA Today, the Listen First Project, the Civic Health Project and the coalition behind the National Day of Conversation. Special shout-outs for these earlier events to Pearce Godwin, Kristin Hanson, Graham Brodie, and Samantha Shireman.
