Vice President Harris delivered a speech at the Ellipse Tuesday night, drawing a crowd of nearly 75,000. The speech, which the Harris-Walz campaign deemed her “closing argument”, took place in the same spot Former President Trump addressed supporters January 6th, 2021. Harris spent the 30 minutes laying out policy plans and criticizing Trump, calling the former president a “petty tyrant.”

The rally, the final in Harris’s campaign, comes only two days after Trump’s rally in Madison Square Garden, which included Trump’s running mate Sen. J.D. Vance, X CEO Elon Musk, former Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., along with others.

With only 4 days until the Presidential Election and early voting already underway in many states, the rallies served as crucial final moments to secure voters still on the fence about each candidate, and further cement the support of already decided voters.

Outlets on both sides of the aisle praised their own candidate while criticizing the opposition. Outlets on the left called Harris’s rally symbolic and powerful, while calling the Trump rally fascist and vulgar. Meanwhile, Outlets on the right deemed Trump’s rally an extravaganza, and criticized both the left’s coverage of it and Harris’s own rally.

An article published by MSNBC (Left bias) deemed the Harris rally “a mirror image of the Jan. 6, 2021, Ellipse rally that Donald Trump incited into violent insurrection. Whereas Trump’s remarks fueled distrust and even hatred of the democratic process, Harris’ speech sought to convince skeptical Americans that democracy is still a system worth protecting. In just one week, voters across the nation will have the opportunity to decide which future they want for their country and for themselves. Tonight, Harris made that choice clear.”

A New York Post (Right bias) columnist thought differently, writing that “Harris couldn’t escape the shadow of either Biden or Trump tells me she has run out of fresh arguments for her election. With early voting in full swing and Election Day next Tuesday, this was her last, best chance to redefine herself, and she didn’t do it.”

A writer for The Nation (Left bias) called the Trump rally a “desecration,” writing,“With his fascist New York City rally, Donald Trump has befouled what many believe to be a sacred space: Madison Square Garden. It would be naïve to not think that the Trump campaign was pondering 1939 when they put their rally plan together. Trump’s rally is a reminder that this arena is not ‘ours’ even if we are the ones who fill it with passion.”

Fox News (Right Bias) published an article that called the left’s reporting of the rally “disgusting, vile rubbish” and arguing “Rather than ferocious U.S. storm troopers, I saw thousands of calm, cheerful men, women and children lined up from the middle of West 33rd Street and wrapped north and then east around 1 Penn Plaza. They peacefully and patriotically waited in a cool autumn breeze to enter MSG.”
