Two Charged with Voter Registration Fraud in California

Two men were arrested and charged on voter fraud charges after allegedly submitting more than 8,000 fraudulent voter registration applications on behalf of homeless people, according to a press release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office on Tuesday. Carlos Antonio De Bourbon Montenegro, 53, and Marcos Raul Arevalo, 34, were charged with one count each of conspiracy to commit voter fraud, eight counts of voter fraud, four counts of procuring and offering a false or forged instrument, and other charges, according to the news release. The Daily Breeze also reported that Montenegro was running for mayor in Hawthorne, California in August, and had “turned in paperwork to run for mayor but failed to meet the required 20 signatures by Hawthorne residents.” The story received wide coverage from right-rated outlets and less overall coverage from left- and center-rated outlets.
