Shanahan Out, Esper Named Acting Secretary of Defense

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Former Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan has been removed from the pentagon, and replaced by Army Secretary Mike Esper, Tuesday. Shanahan, a former Boeing executive, was President Trump's pick for the permanent position, but an FBI investigation into a 2010 domestic dispute has been speculated to slow down the nomination and confirmation process. Shanahan and his ex-wife have both accused each other of assault, with her being arrested at one point. Apparently, those charges were dropped and led to the divorce. President Trump tweeted this morning that Shanahan had decided not to continue with his nomination process in order to spend more time with his family.
