Russia, Ukraine Meet for Peace Talks in Turkey

Summary from the AllSides News Team

On Tuesday, Russia and Ukraine resumed face-to-face peace talks in Turkey to search for solutions to end the conflict, which has driven nearly 4 million people from their homes and killed thousands of troops and civilians.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is seeking security guarantees and promising neutrality and the end of Ukraine's efforts to join NATO in an effort to obtain peace. The talks occur as Russia cuts back on operations near Kyiv but continues bombing other parts of Ukraine. Russia has called its invasion of Ukraine a "special military operation" to "de-Nazify" and "demilitarize" Ukraine, which many news sources across the political spectrum interpret as a call for an ouster of its political leadership and a degradation of the country's military forces.
