Peace Talks Resume as Russia Pressures Ukraine Capital

Summary from the AllSides News Team

On Monday, negotiators from Russia and Ukraine will meet again virtually to seek an end to Russia's invasion.

Some negotiators are suggesting progress after an agreement this weekend that included "human corridors" that would allows civilians to safely depart from Luhansk and towns near Kyiv.  The fourth round of talks on Monday reportedly focused on ceasefire, withdrawal of troops, and security guarantees. Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's office said Monday morning that the talks were pausing until Tuesday.

The negotiations come after an evening of airstrikes and shellings in residential areas across Ukraine - in the south, east, and northwest.  The weekend also saw American journalist Brent Renaud killed by Russian gunfire.  Meanwhile, humanitarian aid is heading toward the besieged port city of Mariupol, but the convoy, lead by an Orthodox priest, is reportedly having to navigate a road battered by fighting and laced with land mines.
