Partial Government Shutdown Likely to Continue Into the New Year
Headline Roundup December 23rd, 2018
After the Senate adjourned the day on Saturday without coming to an agreement on a spending deal, this assured that federal closures would continue after Christmas. Incoming Acting Chief of Staff, Mick Mulvaney, said it was "very possible," that the partial government shutdown would last into the new year.

The partial government shutdown could go on for potentially many more days – and perhaps weeks – but the White House indicated Sunday that it was backing down on its main sticking point: It was requesting less than $5 billion for border wall funding.

The first day of shutdown negotiations has been a bust.

The move came after a lunch with the president and conservative Republicans — followed by a discussion between Vice President Pence and Sen. Charles E. Schumer that fell flat.
