NATO Likely to Bolster Troop Presence in Eastern Europe

Summary from the AllSides News Team

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said Wednesday that the defense alliance would likely deploy four new battle groups to Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia.

The remarks came as President Joe Biden traveled to Europe for a Thursday summit of all 30 NATO countries. The additional troops would double the number of battle groups along NATO’s eastern flank. According to a CNBC (Center) report, 100,000 of the total 140,000 NATO troops deployed in Europe came from the U.S. Furthermore, an anonymous senior NATO official told the Associated Press (Center) that an estimated 7,000 to 15,000 Russian troops had died in Ukraine.
