Mike Pence Hints at 2024 Presidential Run Against Trump

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Former Vice President Mike Pence hinted that he would be open to a 2024 presidential run against former President Donald Trump.

"We'll go where we're called," Pence said during an interview with The New York Times (Lean Left bias) that was published on Monday. "That's the way Karen and I have always approached these things." The former vice president went on to say that it's "been very humbling" to see how many people across the country "have made a point to express appreciation" about his decision to not support Trump's mission to overturn the 2020 election. The Times also talked with Trump spokesperson Taylor Budowich, who said that Pence is "desperate to chase his lost relevance." Budowich also emphasized that Trump is "already 82-3 with his endorsements, and there’s nothing stopping him from saving America in 2022 and beyond."

Coverage of Pence's comments were generally balanced across the spectrum, most of which labeled Trump as "the clear favorite" for the 2024 GOP nominee. Some left-rated outlets linked back to polls that found most Americans believe that Pence "had no right to alter the results of the election." Some right-rated outlets emphasized how Trump "has eyes on the competition — including Pence," despite not officially declaring a 2024 bid.
