Hurricane Florence Leaves 8 Dead, Nearly 1 Million Without Power

A weakened Florence slowed to a crawl over South Carolina on Saturday as it began a slow trek to the west but continued to batter the region with storms surges and heavy flooding from as much as 15 more inches of rain.

As of Saturday afternoon, more than 35 inches of rain had fallen in Surf City on the North Carolina coast. That’s an enormous amount of water to fall in two days. And more is on the way.
