Gorsuch Breaks From Conservatives, Joins Liberals in Majority Opinion

Summary from the AllSides News Team

On Monday morning, Neil Gorsuch, the first Trump appointee to the Supreme Court, broke with his fellow conservative justices to join an opinion. Herrera v. Wyoming was decided today in favor of the petitioner, who argued that a century-and-a-half old contract between the United States government and the Crow Tribe, of which he was a member, allowed him to hunt outside of any time restraints set by the State of Wyoming. The State of Wyoming argued that any contract between the United States government and the Crow Tribe became null and void when Wyoming attained statehood. The Supreme Court overturned the rulings of the lower courts, which ruled in favor of the State of Wyoming, and lead to Herrera's conviction for off-season hunting.
