Former Trump Fundraiser Charged With Acting As A Foreign Agent

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Private equity investor Thomas Barrack was arrested Tuesday on charges of failing to disclose lobbying on behalf of the United Arab Emirates. Barrack, a friend of former President Donald Trump, was also one of Trump's top campaign fundraisers and chair of Trump’s 2017 inaugural committee. The Justice Department unsealed an indictment of three individuals, including Barrack, who allegedly attempted to influence Trump's foreign policy. Barrack was also charged with obstruction of justice and making false statements to the FBI during an interview in 2019; The New York Times (Lean Left bias) reported that a spokesman said Barrack will plead not guilty to the charges. Matthew Grimes, one of Barrack's employees, and Rashid Sultan Rashid Al Malik Alshahhi, a UAE national, were also charged.

The story received wide coverage across the political spectrum. Coverage from outlets on all sides tended to detail Barrack's history of interactions with foreign nations, as well as his history with Trump.
