A federal judge ruled Friday night that President Trump overstepped his powers when he used an emergency declaration to go around Congress and try to build his border wall, and ordered a halt to at least some of the construction.

President Trump’s efforts to build a wall along the southwest border hit a roadblock on Friday night when a federal judge in California granted a preliminary injunction that prevents the administration from redirecting funds under the national emergency declaration issued in February.
