Chris Cuomo Joins NewsNation After Being Fired by CNN

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Chris Cuomo is joining cable news network NewsNation as a primetime host after being terminated by CNN last year.

CNN suspended Cuomo, who was also a primetime host on that network, in December 2021 when New York State Attorney General Letitia James released documents showing Cuomo had a hand in helping his brother, then-Governor Andrew Cuomo, respond to sexual harassment allegations and manage media coverage of them. He was later fired, and is suing CNN for $125 million.

NewsNation (Center bias), which is owned by Nexstar, aims to provide “down-the-middle, unbiased news reporting and analysis.”  Their ratings to date have averaged just 50,000 people per night, though NewsNation has hired several former anchors from Fox News, CNN and ABC. Fox averages 2.4 million viewers per night, and MSNBC and CNN reach 1.2 million, according to Nielsen data.

The announcement of Chris Cuomo's hiring by NewsNation came at the end of an interview with NewsNation's Dan Abrams. Sources across the spectrum highlighted how Cuomo's new audience is much smaller than CNN's. Some reports from right-rated sources, such as New York Post (Lean Right bias)highlighted how Cuomo deflected sexual assault allegations against him while announcing his new job.
