Summary from the AllSides News Team

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) on Friday; this week's report contained several important studies related to coronavirus pandemic. The report included a study in which 40 percent of adults said they struggled with mental health challenges and substance abuse, while 11 percent reported suicidal ideation. Another study from the MMWR revealed that Hispanic and black residents were disproportionately affected in coronavirus hotspots in June. The report also included several studies about COVID-19–associated Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C), facility-wide coronavirus testing in nursing homes, and transmission of COVID-19 in patients receiving dialysis in nursing homes. When reporting on the MMWR report, outlets from all sides of the political spectrum covered the high number of mental health struggles and suicide ideation among adults in June, while only left- and center-rated outlets reported on the disproportionate number of cases among people of color in coronavirus hotspots.
