CDC Issues New Holiday COVID-19 Guidance
Summary from the AllSides News Team
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued new holiday COVID-19 guidelines last week, urging people to get vaccinated and recommending that unvaccinated people delay travel until they get the shot. Fully vaccinated people are advised to mask up "in public indoor settings in communities with substantial to high transmission," and unvaccinated people are advised to wear masks in any public indoor setting. The CDC still recommends masks for everyone on public transportation regardless of vaccination status. President Biden's chief medical adviser Anthony Fauci said Sunday that "if you’re vaccinated and your family members are vaccinated, those who are eligible...you can enjoy the holidays."
The guidance was covered across the spectrum. Coverage from center- and right-rated outlets sometimes highlighted how U.S. COVID-19 cases have fallen by roughly 23% in the past two weeks. Some reports from left-rated sources highlighted concerns from public health experts about people who aren't yet vaccinated.
