More than 30 officers were injured and more than a dozen people were arrested amid protests and violence following the police shooting of a black man who appeared to approach officers and reportedly refused to drop a knife he was holding.

President Donald Trump is prepared to order federal intervention if requested to address the violence.

President Trump is prepared to order federal intervention in Philadelphia after rioting erupted over a police shooting of a Black man wielding a knife, White House Communications Director Alyssa Farah said Tuesday.

Hundreds of people took to the streets Monday to protest the police-involved fatal shooting of 27-year-old Walter Wallace. Violent clashes with police ensued, leaving 30 officers injured including one whose leg was broken when he was run over by a pickup truck.

Police in Philadelphia said 30 officers were injured during violent protests Monday night that broke out after police shot and killed a 27-year-old Black man who authorities said had a knife.

More than 300 people marched through the streets of Philadelphia late Monday into early Tuesday to protest the shooting of Walter Wallace, Jr. which was captured on video.
