Army Corps reverses decision on controversial mine plan in Nome region, approves dredge permit
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has approved a dredge permit for a proposed mining operation in an estuary east of Nome, a plan that has generated widespread local opposition. The Corps’ Hawaii-based Pacific Ocean Division announced on Wednesday that it is offering a permit to IPOP LLC, a company seeking to mine for gold by dredging a site called Bonanza Channel that is part of Safety Sound.

18-year-old Army corporal who went missing in Korea in 1950 identified
U.S. Army Cpl. Ray K. Lilly of Matoaka, W.Va., who went missing in action on Nov. 2, 1950, in the vicinity of Unsan, North Korea, has been accounted for, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency announced Friday. Fire On Former Army Reserve Barracks Property In Providence: Report
PROVIDENCE, RI — A fire broke out on the property of a former Army Reserve Barracks on Niagra Street in Providence Monday morning, though the building was untouched, according to WPRI .
Police were notified of the fire around 1 a.m. by people who saw smoke while driving on I-95, the outlet reported.
