“Mother nature always has that final say in what’s going to happen,” said Karen Cahill, deputy executive director of Massachusetts Cranberries, an association representing hundreds of cranberry growers in southeastern Massachusetts. The 2024 annual projection from the National Agricultural Statistics Service expects a statewide total of 2.2 million barrels, with one barrel equal to 100 pounds. That’s about 12 percent more than the 2023 harvest of the state’s official fruit, when a cold spring and rainy summer harmed the berries’ ability to grow.
