Most violent crime across the country is trending down, returning to levels seen before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, when crime spiked nationwide. But homicides remain stubbornly high, especially in cities like Seattle that historically have been classified as “low homicide” cities, according to a midyear crime report from the Council on Criminal Justice, a nonpartisan think tank headquartered in Washington, D.C.
