A preliminary 3.1 magnitude earthquake struck near Brentwood Thursday evening, according to the United States Geological Survey. The quake, which hit at 5:39 p.m. Monday was centered 4.9 miles southwest of the East Bay town. Further information was not immediately available. This is a developing story.
