County sales tax bump on November ballot

SALINAS – Monterey County elected officials on Thursday greenlit placing a 1% sales tax increase on the November ballot to try and plug budget deficits predicted over the next few years, while at the same timer killing a county tax that visitors to the county would pay on their hotel rooms. If the sales tax is approved by voters in the unincorporated area of Monterey County, then it will increase from 7.75% to 8.75%, which would be tied with Gonzales and King City as having lowest rate of any jurisdiction...
