Extension request made to FEMA over Kansas severe storm damage

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Gov. Laura Kelly’s office has requested an extension from FEMA to submit a request for a major disaster. The letter asks for an extension to Aug. 17, 2024, to submit for the public assistance program for severe thunderstorms accompanied by large hail, straight-line winds, tornadoes, and torrential rainfall resulting in flooding that impacted the state May 18-19. Kelly made the request to allow more time for preliminary damage assessments to seek federal assistance through the Public Assistance program. The program provides funds on a cost-share basis...
