Telehealth abortions — in which abortion pills are sent by mail — have surged in the two years since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. But the expanded availability of telehealth has obscured just how few providers are behind the climbing numbers. Telehealth abortion provision was opened up during the pandemic, when the Food and Drug Administration eased in-person dispensing requirements for mifepristone.
