Juneteenth concerts will bring music of freedom and culture to New Orleans events

On June 19, 1865, two months after the end of the Civil War, a military order was announced in Galveston, Texas, informing the formerly enslaved people of that secessionist state that they were now free, as granted in President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. Since then, June 19 has been celebrated as Juneteenth by the African American community. It was declared a national holiday in June 2021 by President Joe Biden.
