Iowa City, Waterloo residents protest new Iowa immigration law as federal court hears challenge

On Monday, June 10, three buses filled with priests, nuns and immigrant workers from Iowa City and Waterloo traveled to Des Moines to attend the preliminary hearing on SF2340, which is set to go into effect on July 1. According to a news release from the multi-service organization Escucha Mi Voz Iowa, the group traveling to Des Moines views SF2340 as “anti-immigrant” and “unconstitutional.” The hearing was scheduled for 9:30 a.m. that day at the Des Moines federal courthouse.
