Update: Thunderstorms with marble-sized hail in Blount and Jefferson counties Saturday

An updated report from the National Weather Service was issued on Saturday at 3:11 p.m. for strong thunderstorms until 4 p.m. for Blount and Jefferson counties. Wind gusts of up to 40 mph and marble-sized hail (0.5 inches) are expected. "At 3:10 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm over Kimberly, or 8 miles north of Gardendale, moving east at 20 mph," states the weather service. "Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible." Locations impacted by the alert...
