Dozens of departing Maine lawmakers could alter balance of power

One out of every five Maine lawmakers is walking away from the Legislature this year, whether because of term limits, family demands or other reasons. That means one-fifth of the seats in the state Legislature will not have an incumbent who can rely on experience, constituent service and name recognition to defend their posts in the fall elections – creating plenty of opportunities for each political party to flip seats and change the balance of power.
