Portage’s shopping district floods often. $1.8M project aims to fix it.

PORTAGE, MI -- A $1.8 million project aims to tackle frequent flooding on South Westnedge Avenue without disrupting businesses and vehicle traffic in the area.

South Westnedge Avenue, near Carillon Centre, Portage Crossings and Target, averages 30,000 vehicles a day, said Director of Transportation & Utilities Kendra Gwin. Flooding significant enough to cause lane closures in the area occurs four to five times per year.
