Strafford County, N.H., commissioners challenge newly drawn districts

Lawmakers narrowly passed House Bill 75 over Democrats’ objections, and Governor Chris Sununu signed it, so state law now specifies that one Strafford County commissioner will be elected from each of the three newly drawn districts. The plaintiffs, all Democrats, were elected based on the countywide vote in 2022, just as their predecessors had been for more than 150 years. But the Republican-controlled state legislature decided last year to switch things up.
