Psychiatric patients have been detained, sometimes for months at a time, in cells like this one in the Idaho Maximum Security Institution near Boise. After decades of detaining psychiatric patients in maximum security prison cells, Idaho is finally on the verge of building a secure mental health facility that would house those with serious mental illness more humanely.
